Richard is an architect and set up his own practice, RM Architects, eight years ago. Throughout his career he has specialised in older people’s housing, winning many design awards for work with Beechcroft, English Courtyard, Hanover and Anchor among others. Richard also worked on a new European Standard for Sheltered housing.

RMA work in other sectors as well with extensive experience on historic buildings, work in the City of London and general residential design.

Head of Corporate Affairs: Lifestory

Emma Webster is Head of Corporate Affairs for Lifestory Group (made up of Anthology Pegasus and Renaissance Retirement) leading on national policy work for the company. She is also responsible for site specific political and community engagement activities for Lifestory. She is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and an Accredited Practitioner of the same body.

Emma has been a local Councillor for 16 years and has held various Cabinet positions, including Highways and Transport, Regeneration, Community Safety and Housing.

Managing Director: Beechcroft Developments Ltd

Chris Thompson is Managing Director of Beechcroft Developments Ltd, a private sector developer specialising in retirement housing. He first joined Beechcroft after leaving college in the 1980s and rejoined in the Company in 1999. Chris has played an important role in the Company’s development over the past 2 decades and specialises in the selection of sites and the design of both new schemes and conversions in some of the best locations in Southern England.

Paul is the Director of Communications for McCarthy Stone and joined the organisation in 2011. He previously worked as an adviser to a senior MP and Government Minister in Parliament and for consultancies providing communications support for several UK housebuilders and national infrastructure companies. Paul is responsible for external and internal communications at McCarthy Stone and is also a trustee at the McCarthy Stone Charitable Foundation.

Head of Land and Planning: KYN

David Roe is Head of Land & Planning at KYN, a private-sector, care home, operator specialising in residential, nursing and dementia care, formed in 2019. Their current focus is on developing and operating homes in and around London.

With over 20 years’ experience in the property industry, he first joined McCarthy & Stone in 2000 as a Land Buyer after studying Urban Planning and Management at The University of Nottingham. Following an introduction to land buying in the South East, David then went to help set up the South East Region of Churchill Retirement Living, as Land Director, for 6 years successfully contributing to a strong and profitable retirement sector.

Between 2008 and 2021 David worked as Head of Land & Planning at Signature Senior Lifestyle where he was responsible for all aspects of sourcing new sites and obtaining planning permissions for the majority of their first 23 care homes.

Gary Day

Land, Design & Planning Director; Churchill Retirement Living 

Gary is a Chartered Town Planner and a member of the Chartered Institute of Housing. He is a PLC Board Director at Churchill Retirement Living, primarily responsible for the strategic direction of the company’s land, design, and planning activities. Gary has a wealth of experience in the retirement housing sector. Prior to joining CRL in May 2021, he spent over 32 years at McCarthy Stone, the last 20 of which as Executive Land & Planning Director. Gary currently chairs CRL’s investment and ESG committees.

Over the years, Gary has taken an active role in seeking to promote better housing and planning policies for the UK’s ageing population, at both central and local government levels. He has presented evidence at government inquiries and has sat on numerous government expert groups in England, Scotland, and Wales.

Housing Policy Consultant to RHG

Kathleen Dunmore is an economist with over 30 years experience in housing policy research. Formerly employed by Milton Keynes Development Corporation for whom she helped to develop a range of older persons housing options and as Social Housing Consultant to the House Builders Federation she has been a Director of Three Dragons since 1996. She has a long standing interest in older persons housing and particular expertise in modelling housing demand and supply.

Housing Policy Consultant to RHG

Laura Easton has 30 years experience of working in the housing sector. She is an Associate and Senior Consultant at Three Dragons where her specialisms include research into demand and best practice for older persons’ accommodation, as well as the development economics of retirement housing. She has previously worked in policy & strategy for local authorities and a large national charity.
