The Retirement Housing Group congratulates member, PegasusLife, for winning the HAPPI award at the Housing Design Awards for its ‘Chapter House’ development in Lichfield, Staffordshire. The win is the fourth in the row for PegasusLife at the Housing Design Awards, following the success of The Vincent, Clifton, which won the HAPPI project award last year.
Launched 70 years ago, the Housing Design Awards are amongst the most prestigious in the property sector, being the only accolades supported by all five of the UK’s major professional architecture institutions, including the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
Situated on the site of a former Friary, Chapter House, is a distinctive development of 38 one- and two-bedroom apartments. The development was designed by award-winning architects Proctor and Matthews, who are currently also working with PegasusLife on its Steepleton development in Tetbury, Gloucestershire. Alongside spacious open-plan apartments, a shared kitchen and communal lounge, and extensive gardens and an orangery, the development is centred around Monks Walk, a publicly maintained walkway meandering through wildflowers and herbaceous borders. The pathway is a natural, attractive space for the local community to enjoy.
Howard Phillips, Chairman of PegasusLife, commented:
“It is PegasusLife’s innovative approach to design – prioritising the physical and social wellbeing of its residents – that has helped the Chapter House triumph. PegasusLife activity prioritised the HAPPI design principles in all of its developments and has consistently shown commitment to the wellbeing of its residents………. We hope that our achievement heralds a sea-change in the retirement property market, encouraging developers to really think about the wellness of their residents.”
Stephen Proctor, Director at Proctor and Matthews, commented:
“We are very proud of this successful development, and we already know how popular Chapter House is with its residents. It’s very important to ensure that older generations have access to high quality new housing that meets their needs, and it has been very rewarding to work alongside PegasusLife who, like us, are committed to bringing good design to all members of society.”
The awards were announced on Monday 02 July.
