The members of the Retirement Housing Group have welcomed The Rt Hon Steve Reed OBE MP to his new role as Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government. Paul Teverson, Chairman of RHG said:
“We welcome the appointment of Steve Reed to the role. It comes at a really important time for the retirement and later living sector, with the Housing Strategy due shortly for publication as well as the Government’s response to the recommendations of the Older Peoples’ Housing Taskforce. In less than five years the UK will be a super-ageing society, with one in five people being over the age of 65. Specialist housing for older people plays an important part in making sure that older people continue to be able to live well for longer, while releasing under-occupied homes at the top of the housing ladder and thereby facilitating greater fluidity in housing chains, right down to opportunities for first time buyers. We look forward to the ongoing dialogue with the Secretary of State and his team over the coming months.”
The RHG has written to the new Secretary of State to raise the views of the group and request a meeting.
